A classic "lost race" story, with all of the required elements a seductive empress, a straight-arrow hero, battles, escapes, sorcery, and earth-shattering cataclysms! Eminently readable and very entertaining, without any profundity to distract a fan of Haggard, Aubrey, or Janvier-style fantasy literature.

The Lost ContinentANNOTATED edition by Charles John Cutcliffe Wright Hyne Literature Fiction eBooks

All this in a post-apocalyptic setting that would make even the most jaded fan of the genre take notice. While the particulars might be cause for debate (lions and tigers, but no bears. Oh, my), E.R. Burroughs does not disappoint. While it might be difficult to take his 'divided' world at face value given the nature of our omnipresent connectivity, this set-up seems largely believable, given the predictive future of the era in which it was written (1915). The story is also short, coming in at just under 100 pages. This helps it feel like a welcome diversion; a fun, romp of a read, like any good pulp tale should be.

In short: if you like adventure with a dash of sci-fi, a sprinkle of man vs. nature and some romance, "The Lost Continent" will help you while away a couple hours. Also, at the time of this writing, the story was free! How much better could it get?

Brand new and great price
This is a great adventure story with the heroes being trapped in an unknown world when they venture past a forbidden barrier in their ship. Even though this is an older book, it did not seem dated to me, as have many of the older classics I have read. It has a blend of science fiction, adventure, romance, heroism, chivalry, and a strong female character. The author is a good writer, and I intend to read more of his books.
I don't want to give away too much. This has all the formula ingredients of Burroughs in a new dystopian scenario, which is shortly resolved within a novella instead of being spread out over a series of books. So I would say my only complaint is that I can't find anything else by Burroughs along the same lines to read!
This science fiction novel is set in a distant future where civilization had crumbled and reformed. I enjoy these types of novels where the artifacts of the past being described are recognizable landmarks and tools from our present. Burrough's spins a great tale that is more about mankind than the modern wonders of our future. It's a short read and a good one.
Though rather short, The Lost Continent is one of many books that speculate an alternate ending of an event or occurrence. Personally, I enjoy such books. The story is told in a fashion much like a person was telling it to you personally, with side notes and certain details stressed. I would recommend to someone who could get it for audio book, because the style is much better suited for listening rather than reading.
I own over 90% of Edgar Rice Burroughs' books and still looking for the rest. The very first book that I purchased and read over a dozen times is A Princess of Mars (The Mars Series), then I have all the Tarzan Series which includes one of the Pellucidar series. So I had to find the Pellucidar books and got them all except the first book. Then I had to find all of the other books that didn't belong in any type of series, just so I had them. So after more then 40 years I think I may have the complete collection.
Although I am currently enjoying this book, I thought the buyer should know that there are several errors in it. The first chapter sets the stage as being 1974 not 1874 as it should be. I believe Mr. Burroughs was deceased many years before 1974. There is also the fact that the second world war is not even mentioned. Those who redo classics into ebooks should be more careful with the dates. A true classic should be some where around a hundred years old.
